1. How long does it take for my application to be approved?
All applications must be approved by the board. The board meets quarterly. You will be notified by the board of any action taken on your application 10 days after the board meeting date.
2. How much experience and education is required to take the exam?
You must have a degree in landscape architecture from an accredited institution plus 4 years of experience in the field.
3. I have a CLARB Council Record. What portion of the application am I required to complete?
You are required to complete the entire application, even if you have a CLARB Council Record.
4. What items are required if I have my CLARB Council Record sent to the board?
You will not be required to have reference forms sent to the board if you list the same references
that are included in your Council Record. You will not need to have employer verification or
college transcripts sent to the board since these items are also included in the Council Record.
You will only be required to complete the application and send it in along with the application
fee.
5. What is the physical address for the board?
The physical address for the board is 3733 Benson Drive, Raleigh, NC 27609.
6. What if my license has expired?
Upon failure to renew, the certificate shall be automatically revoked. The certificate may be
renewed at any time within one year after its expiration if the applicant pays the required renewal
fee and late renewal penalty, and the Board finds that the applicant has not used his or her
certificate or title or engaged in the practice of landscape architecture after notice of revocation
and is otherwise eligible for registration under the provisions of this Chapter. After one year, the
applicant must complete the reinstatement process.
7. Does the Board require a seal for licensees?
Yes, the board does require a seal or stamp with the name of the licensee and the registration
number. The board does not have these seals made. You are responsible for obtaining your own
seal.
8. What are the requirements for my stamp or seal?
Please refer to section 89A-2 of the Landscape
Architect Practice Act for seal requirements. Please click

9. How are scores reported for the exam?
CLARB will report the results of Sections A, B, and D directly to the candidate. CLARB will
not notify the NC Board of passing score results until the candidate requests them to do so.
Results of Sections C and E are emailed to the candidate by CLARB, however the results are not
official until the candidate receives written notification from the NC Board.
10. When will I find out the results of my examination?
You will receive an unofficial email notification from CLARB approximately 8-10 weeks following the exam date. Once we have received the scores from CLARB, the Board will officially notify you by US mail.
